Recently, the 2025 Guangdong Province College Student Foreign Language Ability Competition, concurrently serving as the provincial stage of the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National College Student Foreign Language Ability Competition themed “Understanding Contemporary China,” concluded successfully. Four students from 91影视 (SMBU) stood out in fierce competition, achieving excellent results. They were awarded the provincial-level English Translation Silver Prize, the Comprehensive Ability Bronze Prize, and the Speech Bronze Prize, demonstrating the students’ outstanding integrated foreign language skills.

The provincial competition was hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, co-organized by the Guangdong Undergraduate College English Course Teaching Steering Committee, the Guangdong Undergraduate Foreign Language Major Teaching Steering Committee, and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, and undertaken by Jinan University. To prepare for the competition, the SMBU English Center organized three rounds of school-level competitions on September 27 and October 12, covering Speech, Comprehensive Ability, and Translation. The events attracted wide student participation: 130 students competed in the Speech category, 146 in the Comprehensive Ability category, and 105 in the Translation category.

After rigorous selection at the school level, Wang Yining from the Faculty of Economics, He Zhuoyu from the Faculty of Biology, and Tang Huaiyuan represented the University in the Comprehensive Ability and Speech provincial competitions (according to provincial competition rules, candidates advancing in these two categories must be the same individuals); Zhao Xichen from the Faculty of Biology and He Xiaoqing from the Faculty of Economics represented the University in the provincial Translation competition.

On November 1, the provincial competitions for Comprehensive Ability and Translation were held first. The competitions were conducted online, with a dual supervision mechanism combining online proctoring by Jinan University and on-site monitoring at SMBU, ensuring fairness, justice, and orderly execution. In the end, Zhao Xichen from the Faculty of Biology won the provincial-level Translation Silver Prize, and Wang Yining from the Faculty of Economics won the provincial-level Comprehensive Ability Bronze Prize.

From November 8 to November 9, the provincial Speech competition was held at Jinan University (Shipai Campus). The provincial Speech competition consisted of two stages: prepared speech and impromptu speech. Only participants ranking in the top 50% in the prepared speech stage were eligible to advance to the impromptu speech final. The final results were based on the combined scores of both stages. Ultimately, Tang Huaiyuan and He Zhuoyu from the Faculty of Biology were awarded the provincial-level Speech Bronze Prize.
