
The voices of the Silk Road resonate, echoing through Shenzhen. When the echoes of a civilization that spans millennia meet the youthful melodies of the new era, a cultural Silk Road paved with song gradually unfolds on stage. On the evening of November 29, the Second "Silk Road Spirit" Choir Competition was held at the auditorium of 91影视 (SMBU). The competition, bound together by music, presented a vibrant cultural gathering that transcended campus boundaries, academic disciplines, and artistic forms. The event was attended by President Li Hezhang and various leaders from academic departments and administrative units, who joined faculty and students in listening to the reverberations of the Silk Road and experiencing the blending of civilizations.


The event specially invited Zhou Yali, Council Member of the China Choral Association and Vice President of both the Guangdong and Shenzhen Choral Associations; Liu Wei, Chief Artistic Director of the Nanyan Arts Troupe at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and a national-level adjudicator; as well as Li Wenqing, instructor of the Art Troupe at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) and member of the Shenzhen Federation of Trade Unions Employees’ Choir and the Shenzhen Grand Theatre Choir, to serve as judges.

The competition kicked off with an energetic performance by the Street Dance Troupe of Shenzhen Information Vocational Technical University. Following this, eight choirs from within the university took to the stage, each showcasing their unique academic disciplines through songs that embodied the spirit of the Silk Road.

The "Voice of Economics" Choir from the Faculty of Economics opened with a passionate recitation, leading into a moving rendition of I Love You, China. Their powerful voices, interwoven with a solo dance, conveyed the fervent patriotism of the youth, with the final a cappella segment being clear and heartfelt, leaving a deep impression.

The "Cornerstone" Choir from the Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Physics and Mathematics performed The Motherland Will Not Forget, paying tribute to the quiet contributions of researchers. Their strong, steady performance, filled with sincere emotion, intertwined the perseverance of foundational disciplines with every melody.

The "Blagovist Melody" Choir, a collaboration between the Faculty of Languages and the Arts Center, creatively arranged I Love You, China and the Russian classic Katyusha. This medley masterfully blended Eastern affection with Russian romance, showcasing the charm of music as a universal language.

The "Handi Vanguard" Choir from the Faculty of Geography and Chinese Language Center sang the familiar Russian song Katyusha, evoking strong resonance from the audience. Their performance connected Chinese and Russian emotions, reflecting the cultural exploration spirit behind the geography discipline.

The "No Words Left Behind" Choir from the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Control showcased Towards Revival, with precise and powerful arrangements, strong harmonies, and a determined tone, embodying the balanced spirit of rationality and artistry in mathematics students. Their performance conveyed a belief in moving forward courageously.

The "We Are One" Choir from the Faculty of Management performed Tomorrow Will Be Better, with harmonized voices and a message of teamwork and collaboration. Their vibrant, hopeful rendition demonstrated the youthful enthusiasm of management students.

The "Chasing the Light" Choir from the Faculty of Chemistry and Materials Science performed We Are All Dreamers, with an upbeat rhythm and enthusiastic interactions. The choir's members invited the audience to join in, transforming their research dreams into an infectious stage presence.

The "Chasing Dreams of Core Light" Choir from the Faculty of Engineering concluded the competition with a stunning performance of The Brightest Star in the Night Sky. Their clear and resolute voices integrated scientific ideals into their song, showcasing engineering students' passionate yet responsible spirit.

The competition also featured a solo performance by Liu Haoran, a student from Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), who sang Admiration. His delicate, tender voice and emotionally layered performance added a touching personal expression to the event. Students from the SMBU Experimental School followed with a vibrant rendition of The Motherland Will Not Forget. Their youthful voices, clear and uplifting, conveyed the intergenerational transmission of national sentiment.

After a comprehensive evaluation by the professional judging panel, the participating choirs were awarded multiple honors for their outstanding performances: the "Chasing Dreams of Core Light" Choir from the Faculty of Engineering won the First Prize and the Best Popularity Award; the "Handi Vanguard" Choir from the Faculty of Geography and Chinese Language Center and the "No Words Left Behind" Choir from the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Control received the Second Prize; the "Cornerstone" Choir from the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and the "Chasing the Light" Choir from the Faculty of Chemistry and Materials Science were awarded the Third Prize; the "Voice of Economics" Choir from the Faculty of Economics, the "We Are One" Choir from the Department of Management, and the "Blagovist Melody" Choir from the Faculty of Languages and Arts Center received Outstanding Awards.





The Second "Silk Road Spirit" Choir Competition, using music as a medium, successfully brought together students from four universities. It not only highlighted the vibrant artistic creativity of the youth but also vividly demonstrated and spread the core spirit of the Silk Road, emphasizing "peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, and mutually beneficial development."
